About

I'm Christopher Irving, an assistant professor of visual storytelling in Virginia Commonwealth University's Communication Arts department.

While pursuing my PhD in the MATX program at VCU, I settled on a dissertation that evaluates Superman's evolution between the comics and media. It's more specific than that, but if I told you, I'd have to banish you to the Phantom Zone.

Before this, I wrote comics history books The Blue Beetle Companion (TwoMorrows), Leaping Tall Buildings: The Origins of American Comic Books, Conversations: Larry Hama and Conversations: Mike Allred (University of Mississippi), and the forthcoming CLIFFHANGER: Cinematic superheroes of the serials, 1941-1952 (TwoMorrows). My full CV can be found at my professional website.

Currently, I moderate for Galaxy Con, create swag with Mike Allred's Madman, and continue to teach full-time at VCU.
